Signet Bank is proud to announce that on June 30, 2023, The Baltic Family Firm Institute and the European Corporate Governance Institute will be organizing an international conference which the bank is supporting. The aim will be to bring together representatives of family-run companies in the Baltic region, professionals from the sector, business leaders and researchers from all around the world. During the conference, there will also be the Baltic Family Firm Champions 2023 prize ceremony to crown champions from family-run companies in the Baltic region. This event will be aired online. Experts at the Signet Bank have prepared a special prize to award to one of the contestants at the ceremony.
The main topic for this year’s conference is the durability of family-run companies and the strategic choices which they must make when times are tough. The conference will bring together experienced and global experts related to research and practice about family-run enterprises. They will offer presentations and lead workshops for representatives of such companies.
The aim of the Baltic Family Firm Champions competition and the main goal of the conference is to encourage broader understanding of family-owned companies and their importance in the region. Companies with several generations of owners are a fairly new thing in the Baltic States, and that means that we often find a lack of understanding of what a family firm is and what challenges and opportunities this form of business can encounter. We have visited a medium-sized company that is owned and managed by several members of one family, but they don’t understand why theirs is seen as a family-owned enterprise, because it is “small and has no other employees other than us.” We very much welcome the involvement of the Signet Bank, because that has allowed us to organise the conference and to present a special award to a carefully selected family-owned company that is sustainable and with good prospects for future.
Anete Pajuste, Baltic Family Firm Institute co-founder and board member
Here at the Signet Bank we’re glad to be involved in various initiatives which encourage entrepreneurship. There is no doubt the identifying, evaluating and rewarding family-owned companies in the Baltic region is important for the economic development of the Baltic States. We very much welcome the initiative of the Baltic Family Firm Institute to choose top examples of such companies in the region so as to distinguish and reward enterprises which have been nurtured by generations and have powerful traditions and far-reaching goals. This management method is sustainable, and it is essential to create new jobs and to ensure overall economic development in Latvia.
Ineta Done, Signet Bank senior vice president
The conference is being organised by the Baltic Family Firm Institute, the European Corporate Governance Institute, the University of Tartu, and the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga with support from Livonia Partners, the Signet Bank, Sorainen and Ivars Bergmanis from ViaClarus.
