With the support of Signet Bank, the book "Mūzaīka" was published

Liepiņš’s contribution to the Latvian music scene is invaluable – he has composed six operas, several opuses, song cycles, cantatas, musical works for films and musical performances, and is also the author of more than three hundred songs. 

The rock opera “Lāčplēsis” (1988),  which became one of the most famous symbols of the Third Latvian National Awakening, and the opera “Notre Dame de Paris”, for which the composer received a Great Music Award in 1997, are considered to be the most exemplary works by the composer. In 2022, Zigmars Liepiņš was awarded the Order of the Three Stars, Class IV, for his services to Latvia.

He is the only Latvian composer who has created his own website zigmarsliepins.lv, where in the digital environment anyone can get acquainted with the composer’s work and find the composition they like.

The book “Musaic” (“Mūzaīka”) was published in collaboration with the publishing house “Pētergailis” to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Zigmars Liepiņš. It serves as a kind of subjective memory of the composer and a written record of his personal experiences, the events he went through, and the personalities he met.

The book contains a variety of QR codes that allow the reader to access additional documents, video, audio, and photo information using a scanner app or smartphone photo mode.

The tone set by Zigmars Liepiņš has been resonating in the Latvian music industry for several decades, and at each point of time he shines most brightly. The range of his work – from popular songs and complex rock compositions to stage works and operas – seems to be known to every resident of Latvia. Undoubtedly, Liepiņš’s personality is not limited to talent and work in the music industry, he is also highly appreciated as a visionary entrepreneur and leader with an enviable intuition of a financier – quite a unique combination for a creative personality. This “Muzaīka” edition is not only a great gift for fans of the composer’s work, but also an important retrospective of a bygone era in Latvian culture.
