The Latvian National Theatre, one of the country’s most significant cultural institutions for decades, has long been a home to outstanding theatrical productions that enrich Latvia’s cultural heritage, delight audiences, and inspire creativity. Continuing its commitment to supporting key cultural initiatives and ensuring greater accessibility for the broader public, Signet Bank will remain a major sponsor of the Latvian National Theatre for the second consecutive year in 2025, contributing to the success of the theatre’s new season.
As the theatre embarks on its 106th season, it is returning to its core values by staging works by exceptional Latvian authors and collaborating with distinguished Latvian theatre professionals. The aim is to create truly memorable theatrical experiences for its loyal audiences. I am pleased and honored to share that for the next three seasons, this will be possible thanks to our renewed partnership agreement with Signet Bank, the Latvian National Theatre’s key supporter. On behalf of the theatre, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Signet Bank for its unwavering support of Latvian theatre art and its contribution to reviving cultural philanthropy traditions. This year, one of the most popular and beloved productions in the theatre’s repertoire has been “Bezkaunīgais vecis” (The Brazen Old Man), based on Anšlavs Eglītis’ work and created with the support of Signet Bank. In the upcoming season, audiences can look forward to the dazzling premiere of “Cilvēki laivās” (People in Boats), a stage adaptation of Albert Bels’ legendary novel, directed by Inese Mičule. Widely regarded as one of the most powerful works in Latvian literature, it will be dramatized for the first time in Latvian theatre history. In spring 2025, as part of the ongoing collaboration, audiences will be treated to the colorful and lively musical adaptation of Rutku Tēvs’ historical novel “Dumpīgā Rīga” (Rebellious Riga), directed by the talented Klāvs Mellis. This production promises the intrigue of a gripping detective story combined with vibrant musical energy. May art continue to flourish and all our ambitions be fulfilled, both in the theatre and in life! See you at the National Theatre!

stated Māris Vītols, Director of the Latvian National Theatre.
The Latvian National Theatre’s ability to enrich our cultural heritage and inspire society is invaluable. For decades, it has been an exceptional cultural ambassador and an indispensable part of Latvia’s artistic landscape. Over a century, the theatre has shaped national dramaturgy, and we are honored to be part of this journey. The Latvian National Theatre is a vital platform for promoting Latvian literature, ensuring it remains vibrant and relevant for future generations. I am confident that “People in Boats” will prompt audiences to reflect on values, humanity, and its boundaries. As the play’s epilogue states: ‘Our feelings define our existence. We wish the Latvian National Theatre a successful and creative season, filled with inspiration, new ideas, and outstanding productions!
