Since 2015, Signet Bank has been carefully building a collection of contemporary art. This year, Signet Bank explores a new dimension of its interaction with the art world of Latvia by supporting the Academic Conference of the Doctoral Program at the Art Academy of Latvia “Ideas and Materials: Cultural Hybridity of the Baltic and Other Regions”. By supporting the conference, Signet Bank undertakes not only to promote the achievements of future and current art researchers in Latvia, but also to advance the international scientific consortium.
This year, the conference will take place on June 16–17, 2021, online, and will be attended by several international scholars and lecturers from abroad. Among them – one of the most outstanding European historical researchers, Prof. PhD. Peter Burke; art historian, senior lecturer at University of the Arts London, Prof. PhD. Basia Sliwinska from Great Britain; leading researcher of the National Museum of Denmark, PhD. Ruth Sargent Noyes, and others.
Nowadays, when cultures interact in a wide variety of forms, their hybridization is facilitated by circulation, when the development and understanding of one culture contributes to new discoveries and promotes the next step in the development of culture, provoking the desire to learn its other dimensions. Historically, the Baltic States have been influenced by different cultures, so we believe that cultural hybridization is one of the topics that is worth exploring in depth in search of answers in our multicultural environment.
