Signet Bank supports Latvian big-wave surfer Katrīna Krūze on her journey to the world stage

Signet Bank continues to support Latvian athletes who, with courage, perseverance, and international ambitions, are making Latvia’s name known around the world, and has become a sponsor of big-wave surfer Katrīna Krūze – the first Latvian and the first woman from the Nordic countries to surf the legendary waves of Nazaré in Portugal.

Katrīna’s story demonstrates what can be achieved by boldly following one’s calling and pushing beyond familiar boundaries – in just four years since first stepping onto a surfboard, she has made her way to one of the world’s most impressive surfing destinations, where the power and scale of the waves pose one of the greatest challenges even for experienced professionals.

The next major step in Katrīna’s professional career will take place on November 6, 2026, when she will represent Latvia at the World Championships in Peru, competing alongside the world’s best surfers and continuing to develop her big-wave surfing skills.

Katrīna’s path to the big waves has not been a traditional one – in addition to her athletic career, she is an entrepreneur, a traveler, and a community builder. Traveling, exploring different cultures, and her experiences in the ocean have shaped her outlook on life, which is rooted in self-confidence, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace new challenges. This experience has also given rise to the educational project “Between Sets,” in which Katrīna shares insights gained from the ocean about balance, mindfulness, and connection with oneself. With the support of Signet Bank, Katrīna will continue to prepare for international competitions and strive toward ever-higher athletic goals, while promoting the visibility of big-wave surfing in Latvia and inspiring more and more women to try their hand at this sport.
