The performances of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Aida on March 15 and 17 will mark a new, brilliant chapter in the history of the Latvian National Opera. The roles of Aida and Amneris in these performances will be brought to life by Latvia’s brightest opera stars, Marina Rebeka and Elīna Garanča. The role of Amonasro will be sung by the world-renowned French baritone Ludovic Tézier, who will be visiting Latvia for the first time. The role of Radames in these performances will be played by the resonant tenor Irakli Kakhidze. The performance will be conducted by the talented young Italian conductor Lorenzo Passerini, who will be performing in Latvia for the first time. The main sponsor of the Aida performances is Signet Bank.
We are extremely proud to welcome such outstanding artists to the stage of the Latvian National Opera this spring. This is a special event in the history of our opera, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to experience this moment together with our audience, says Astra Irmeja-Šēfere, a member of the board of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet.

This is a special moment when the stars of the opera world, whom we usually hear in Vienna, Milan, or New York, come together once again in Riga – their home. Marina Rebeka and Elīna Garanča are internationally acclaimed opera singers whose voices carry our country’s name across the globe. The opportunity to hear them perform alongside the world-famous baritone Ludovic Tézier on the stage of the Latvian National Opera is truly unique. As Leonard Bernstein once said, music can express what cannot be put into words. Supporting the opera production of “Aida” is an investment in both high-quality culture and our excellence – our ability to reach the world’s most significant stages from here, comments Ineta Done, member of the board of Signet Bank.

Marina Rebeka is one of the most distinguished sopranos of our time, praised by audiences and critics alike for her remarkable timbre, outstanding musicality, flawless technique, and captivating stage presence. Since 2009, when she gained international recognition at the Salzburg Festival under the baton of Maestro Riccardo Muti, the artist has regularly performed at the world’s most prestigious concert halls and opera houses.
Elīna Garanča, the most outstanding mezzo-soprano of her generation, has made her way from Riga to the world’s most prestigious opera stages through exceptional artistic mastery and perseverance. Earning critical acclaim and captivating audiences worldwide, she has become a major figure in classical music.
Ludovic Tézier is one of today’s leading baritones, whose rich timbre, impeccable technique, refined musical intelligence, and dramatic performances on the world’s most renowned stages are equally appreciated by both audiences and critics.
Giuseppe Verdi’s late masterpiece Aida tells the story of the tragic love between an Ethiopian princess and an Egyptian general, and for 150 years it has been revived on opera stages around the world in a wide variety of interpretations. The Latvian National Opera’s production of Aida, which premiered in 1998 with set and costume design by Ilmārs Blumbergs and direction by Māra Ķimele, has become one of the cornerstones of the Latvian National Opera’s repertoire.
Tickets for performances of the opera Aida are sold out.
