With the support of Signet Bank, ultra-cyclist Arvis Sprude set a new Guinness World Record on July 31, 2022. By covering the distance on the route through Kurzeme, he broke the currently set record – 3,507.82 km cycled in seven days.
At the end of June, Sprude became the first representative from the Baltic states to reach the finish line of the prestigious ultra-cycling race “Race Across America” (RAAM) in 11 hours and 58 minutes, winning 6th place in his age group.
I’ve been planning to set a Guinness World Record for the most kilometres cycled in 7 days for some time now. It was clear that it should be done in the summer, besides, it can be done in Latvia, Kurzeme, where I know the roads very well. Although it hasn’t been long since RAAM, together with my coach Toms Flaksis we decided that now is the right time to try to set a Guinness record, with the additional use of “super compensation”. Being in the USA and measuring more than 5,000 kilometers of races there, I have repeatedly doubted whether I can set a Guinness World Record now, but I understand that this has given me even more motivation and, if all goes well, it will be a great end to a three-year training cycle.

We understand how important it is that someone believes in our efforts, understands and gives motivation. Signet Bank supports various socially significant projects, so we were very happy to follow every cycled kilometer that brought Arvis closer to the world record. The distance he completed in seven days – that is 3,559 km, thus beating Josh Quigley’s previous record by 51 kilometers, serves as proof of testing the limits of human abilities and also the fact that with willpower and systematic work, the impossible becomes possible.

By setting the record, Arvis Sprude became the cyclist who holds both the “WUCA 7-Day Record” and the Guinness World Record for the most kilometers cycled in 7 days.
