On June 15-16, 2023, the Latvian Academy of Art (LMA) will be staging an international scholarly conference, “Conflict as a catalyst of processes,” with the support of Signet Bank. The aim of the conference will be to encourage researchers to reflect on the essential things that have occurred via conflicts, collisions or fights. How can conflicts propose the emergence of innovative resources related to form, content or expression? How can this be used to create a new level of artistic quality?
The conference is being organised at a time of global conflicts, with people in each country experiencing geopolitical stress in a different way. The conformation between “war” and “peace” is precisely that which encouraged us to choose information about the nature of conflicts and catalytical roles in politics, society and culture.
Signet Bank supports the scholarly conferences of the LMA doctoral programme, thus consistently investing in the development of Latvia’s scholarly environment while also facilitating intersectoral interaction.
Our long-lasting partnership with Signet Bank provides evidence to show that private sector investments in facilitating art, culture and science are invaluable when it comes to ensuring successful intersectoral projects and to developing the environment of science in Latvia. Thanks to our partnership with Signet Bank, more than 20 researchers from various European countries will present papers at the conference.
Agita Gritāne, Pro-rector for science, Latvian Academy of Art
The partnership between the Latvian Academy of Art and Signet Bank has become an annual tradition. The topics of this year’s scholarly conference are interwoven with research about process catalysts, and that helps to address socio-political issues in the world. Conflicts are seen as the harshest way for two sides to resolve their contradictions, but the conference will involve further research of this concept to a much broader extent. This will ensure new contexts and expand the definitions of the concepts. We are delighted that Signet can help scientists all over the world to discover previously unknown horizons of research and to present these to the public.
