The Latvian National Opera and Signet Bank have started a new Christmas tradition – a Christmas tree in Opera Square

Riga has become even more festive with the lighting of another Christmas tree. On the first Sunday of Advent, a tree was unveiled at the Latvian National Opera in collaboration with Signet Bank. This location has always been one of the most beautiful spots in the city during the holiday season, and now Riga will be adorned with yet another tree sparkling with thousands of lights.

“I am delighted that this beautiful tree marks the beginning of a new tradition that will bring joy to the residents of Riga, visitors, and opera-goers during the Christmas season next year as well,”

comments Astra Irmeja-Šēfere, a member of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet’s board.

“With the first Advent candle, we symbolically kindle a light – a light within ourselves, in our city, and in our sense of togetherness. We are delighted to start this tradition with the Latvian National Opera and Ballet and the Riga City Council. We hope that this Christmas tree will become a place where everyone can pause, feel the festive spirit, and soak up the light,”

Signet Bank and the Latvian National Opera and Ballet invite Riga residents and visitors to view the festive tree until January 4, 2026, while also taking their time to enjoy the beautifully illuminated Opera Square.
