The Grand Music Award is Latvia’s highest state award in music. In 1993, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, on the initiative of the former Minister of Culture Raimonds Pauls, decided to honor the most outstanding achievements in our country’s musical life with a special award each year. The high prestige of the Grand Music Award, both in society and among musicians, is ensured by the work of a respectable jury, whose members attend concerts throughout the year and hold monthly meetings. At the beginning of January, the jury nominates the Grand Music Award nominees for the previous year, who are announced at a special press conference held by the Ministry of Culture, and the jury votes on the winners shortly before the Grand Music Award ceremony itself.
The Grand Music Award is a token of gratitude to the industry’s outstanding performers for their consistently high-quality performances, not only at home, but also in promoting Latvia’s name around the world. At the same time, by holding the Grand Music Awards outside Riga, we want to emphasize that Latvia is also an excellent example of how, thanks to state support, diverse and high-quality cultural events are available to residents in all regions of Latvia, emphasizes Agnese Lāce, Minister of Culture.

Supporting professional excellence in Latvian music and promoting access to high-quality culture for the wider public, Signet Banka has become the main sponsor of the Grand Music Award.
In recent years, Signet Banka has provided significant support for the development of Latvia’s cultural space and for making cultural events accessible to a wider audience. It is important for us to support areas that shape the environment in which we live, think and develop. Culture and music hold a special place in this. We are truly honored that this year Signet Banka’s name will be mentioned at Latvia’s highest state award ceremony in music – the Grand Music Awards – and that we can be part of this significant moment in Latvian cultural life, comments Roberts Idelsons, Chairman of the Board of Signet Banka.
