Rebecca Horn is an iconic contemporary artist best known for her performances, films and body art pieces. In the 1960s, Horn was still a young artist, working with glass fibre and polyester. Unaware of the toxicity of these materials, the artist incurred severe lung damage requiring hospitalisation. On her hospital bed, she started making sketches of various clothing extensions, which she later made reality. This became Horn’s signature style, the artist later using her own body as the framework upon which to display a variety of elements made from metal, fabric or artificial material: so-called body extensions. She had multiple personal exhibitions at venues such as the Tate Modern in London, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and later in Eindhoven, Berlin, Vienna, London and Grenoble. The artist had two personal exhibitions in 2019 – one at the Centre Metz-Pompidou, another at the Basel’s Museum Tinguely.
Six of Rebecca Horn’s artworks are featured in the Signet Bank Art Collection. All made using mixed technique, including materials such as photographs, acrylic, and other elements. All six hail from Horn’s earlier period, created over the span of two decades and incorporating lyrical references to her personal experiences.
