With the support of Signet Bank, the annual international scientific conference organized by the doctoral program of the Art Academy of Latvia will take place on June 13–14, 2024. The conference will focus on exploring the multidimensional nature of the cognitive process. Under the theme “The Study of Cognitive Processes in Architecture and Art,” the conference has inspired both art theorists and practitioners to examine the creative process and the mechanisms, tools, and conditions that drive it.
For the third year in a row, we are proud to support the scientific conference of the Art Academy of Latvia’s doctoral program. It is gratifying to see how each year the conference theme encourages researchers from around the world to address contemporary issues, advance the study of creative processes, and introduce the broader public to new horizons in research. This year’s theme delves into the nuances of the creative process, highlighting the role of cognitive processes in the creation of art and architecture. Understanding cognitive processes is crucial not only for developing theoretical knowledge and practical applications in the fields of architecture and art but also in a broader context. Creativity serves as a catalyst for sustainable development, driving innovation, problem-solving, adaptability, and growth, which are essential for personal and professional development. Through this conference, we aim to underscore the significance of creativity as a cornerstone of progress and enrichment in all areas of life,

The long-term collaboration with Signet Bank serves as evidence of the invaluable role that private sector support plays in advancing art, culture, and science, as well as fostering successful interdisciplinary projects and the development of Latvia’s scientific environment. Thanks to this partnership, the conference will feature presentations by over 30 experienced researchers and doctoral candidates from various European countries,
emphasized Agita Gritāne, Vice-Rector for Scientific Research at the Art Academy of Latvia.
The conference will feature presentations in both Latvian and English, where speakers will share their insights and observations. The conference will be organized into four thematic sections: “Modeling Cognitive Problems”, “The Range of Human Cognition and AI’s Potential to Expand Cognitive Capacities”, “Cognitive Methods in the Study of Art Processes and Artifacts.”
For the first time, the platform of the conference will also be used by researchers from the Institute of Art History, contributing with a dedicated section titled “Style and School in Artistic Creation: A Case Study of Latvian Art History.” Thus, the international conference will encompass a broad range of topics, providing deeper insights into the diversity of artistic creativity.
